7 Important Beauty Tips You Should NEVER Ignore

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Daily Sunscreen is a MUST!
Regardless of whether it’s overcast outside or whether you have a dark complexion meaning you rarely get sunburned, sunscreen is crucial for anyone who wants to have healthy skin. Just because you don’t need sunglasses doesn’t mean you aren’t still being affected by the sun. The sun’s harmful UV rays can penetrate the clouds and still cause detrimental long term consequences to your skin. Make it a habit to never leave the house without using a moisturizer with at least spf 15 in it.

Lotion or Day Cream: Either Will Do
Along with daily sunscreen, daily moisturizing will add years of youthfulness to your complexion and add to your skin’s elasticity. Moisturize once in the morning and once at night and watch a noticeable difference in the health of your skin.

Handle Eyes With Care
Never, never, NEVER rub your eyes with your towel after you finish washing your face. Do you like the look of crow’s feet? Didn’t think so. Always remember that the skin around your eyes is extremely delicate and prone to show signs of mistreatment over time. Pat your face dry instead of rubbing it roughly with your towel. Use your ring finger or pinky to apply your moisturizer to avoid tugging. Trust me, years down the road, you will thank me for this when all your friends have wrinkles around their eyes and you don’t!

Avoid Waterproof Mascara
Waterproof mascara is a no-no. Whenever possible, avoid it at all costs. The ingredients in waterproof mascara that help make it “waterproof” are not good for your delicate eyelashes. On top of that, waterproof mascara is often hard to remove (despite claims that say otherwise). Thus, in attempts to remove the mascara, you may end up removing eyelashes along with it! Obviously, thick full lashes are usually what we are trying to achieve by using mascara, so losing eyelash hairs kinda defeats the purpose, wouldn’t ya say?!

H2O Is The Way To Go!
You’ve heard it PLENTY of times before and that’s because it’s true! There’s often no better home remedy than the good ‘ole 8 glasses of agua a day! You want healthy, flawless skin? Increase your water intake. It really is that simple.

It’s Called “Beauty Sleep” For a Reason
If you are the type that thinks you’re good to go because somehow you manage to function on 4-5 hours of sleep a night, you’re wrong. Just because you can still go to work and still have decent mental capacity on 4 hours of sleep, doesn’t mean your body can actually handle that. It will eventually catch up with you in one way or another, and you can be sure one way will definitely be on your face! Acne, wrinkles, dark circles, dull complexion, these will all become familiar characteristics of your skin if you forsake the value of a good night’s rest. So you might want to think twice the next time you’re having a late night on a week night. Think of that extra drink, as an extra wrinkle!

Cocktail Hour
So, while we’re the subject of a week night cocktail, alcohol can wreak havoc on your skin if you overuse it. Avoid having more than 2-3 drinks a week. I know, that must sound sooo dreary. However, in the long run, your skin will thank you for easing up on the booze.

Just remember, the better you take care of your body and your skin, the better you’ll look 10 years down the road!

Product Review: CoverGirl Exact Eyelights Mascara

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

On a whim, I decided to try the Exact Eyelights Eye-Brightening Mascara by Covergirl. Who knows, maybe I was sucked in by the clever marketing. What can I say, Rihanna’s eyes are gorgeous! The Covergirl mascara claims it can give you 4 times brighter eyes with its light-reflecting metallics. Well, after trying it out a few times, I’ve come to the conclusion that my eyes, look NOTHING like Rihanna’s with or without the mascara! Maybe the brown in my eyes is just too dark for this mascara to brighten. Either way, on a scale of 1 to 5 I give this a 2.5. On my eyes, it didn’t hold up to it’s claims at all. However, it did lengthen and separate my lashes fairly well and because of this I probably won’t replace it for a while.

These were my results. They weren't taken with the greatest camera in the world so the clarity of each varies a bit. However, I think you can still see the color fairly well and from my assessment, there's not much difference.

Debatable Questions:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

What makes a man romantic? Is it merely a personality trait, that stems from how he was brought up, how his parents behaved towards each other? Or does romance evolve once love enters the picture? Is the act of being romantic a choice or a natural instinct? I suppose that’s a loaded question because some men do seem to just be “naturally” more romantic than others. But can romance be something that a man can acquire or is it more so like if he wasn’t born that way, he’ll never be that way? Shouldn’t a man develop inclinations towards being romantic once he falls in love with a woman, especially a woman he chooses to spend the rest of his life with? And if he doesn’t, does that mean he doesn’t TRULY love her? One could argue that, there’s no way that could be the case. Some men just aren’t naturally romantic people.

I looked up the definition of romantic and this is what I found:

1. characterized by a preoccupation with love or by the idealizing of love or one’s beloved.
2. displaying or expressing love or strong affection
3. ardent, passionate, fervent

I think it’s pretty common knowledge that on average, most men have a hard time “displaying or expressing love or strong affection”. So what is it that makes it easier for some men? I can understand how it may be harder in the early stages of a relationship. You’re still learning about each other and you haven’t allowed yourself to let your guard down just yet. But what about the man who’s in a mature relationship? The man who knows his significant other better than anyone else and vice versa…. Romance should come much easier to that man… shouldn’t it?

Olive Oil On Your Face?!

That’s right I said it! I know the idea of intentionally putting oil on our faces seems like a recipe for an acne disaster but it’s really not that farfetched of a concept. Olive oil is actually an ancient Egyptian beauty secret used by women to keep their skin glowing and smooth.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Olive oil has natural antioxidants and serves as an anti-inflammatory. It’s a natural moisturizer for the skin and doesn’t clog the pores. The skin care industry, it seems, would have you believe that the only way to be acne free is by stripping your skin of all traces of oil then frying it with some sort of alcohol based acne medicine. However, contrary to what the skin care industry would like you to think, you NEED oils to have soft healthy skin.

More and more skin care lines are introducing new products containing olive oil. But why waste money on products that merely contain olive oil as well as other chemical ingredients. Head to your local supermarket, pick up a bottle and try it out for yourself. Make sure it is “extra virgin” because it’s the least processed. Choose one that is deeper in color and preferably imported to ensure you are getting it in its purest form.

Could It Be Male P.M.S???

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

New research suggests that women may not be the only ones who can suffer from P.M.S. symptoms. Apparently men can too! Well at least P.M.S.-like symptoms. In fact, it has even become a named condition known as irritable male syndrome (IMS). Now, I know, I know and No I wouldn’t dare try to say that men could possibly have a real clue what we women go through every month. But there have been times where my husband has just been so irritable for no good reason that I have often said in jest, “Ok, I seriously think he’s P.M.S-ing.” Well, according to some studies, I could have been right!

In one such study taken by Dr. Aimee Aubeeluck of the University of Derby, she said, "We asked 50 men and 50 women lots of questions about symptoms normally associated with PMS and we found men actually scored higher than women in everything apart from water retention." Now obviously, the causes of womens’ P.M.S symptoms could never be even a bit similar to the causes for a man’s, which is no doubt why currently, there are no verified explanations for male P.M.S-like symptoms.

It is suggested, however, that the irritability, sluggishness, and depression can in fact be a result of out of whack hormones or a low testosterone level. We rarely even think twice about a man having any kind of hormonal imbalance! "Men's hormones pulsate hourly, compared with every 28 days for women.” explains Larrian Gillespie, MD, an ex-urologist. The highest point for male testosterone levels is early in the morning and steadily decreases as the day goes on. Hence the term, “morning wood”… nuff said.

So whenever you’re feeling like your man seems cranky for no practical reason, maybe he just needs more sleep, a home cooked meal, or maybe he just he may need to take it easy on the booze! Either way, considering that men can have hormonal imbalances too, maybe you should take it easy on him the next time he’s in a bad mood. Then hopefully, he’ll do that same…and do it at least once a month!
